Rules and Dates
- When does the event start and finish? It kicks off Thursday May 24 2012 and concludes on September 12 2012.
You will be able to update your step entry until 2359 in your local time zone on Sunday 16th September. - What are the rules of the GCC?
1. My team will comprise of seven people only and none of them will have proven super powers.
2. My team will contain no more than two athletes. An athlete is defined as a person who regularly participates in extensive sport training (or a person who can legitimately wear a current national sporting uniform & darts and snooker not included).
3. My team will contain no more than one participant who has previously finished in the top ten fastest teams or who has been genetically modified into a walking superhuman.
4. If my team does not enter any steps for one month we will be classed as dormant and will be removed from the GCC.
5. I will only use the official GCC pedometer.
6. I will not purposefully enter false step counts because that s cheating and apart from when playing monopoly cheating is not very nice.
7. I will not jiggle wobble or shake my pedometer or do anything to manually add steps onto my step count however what my body does during exercise is a different matter entirely.
8. I will not sabotage another participant s pedometer& or their ability to walk because that is even worse than cheating and& usually involves the police.
9. I will enjoy myself and make a lasting change! No really you will believe us!
10. There isn't a ten it s just that 10 is a much more rounded number.
If GCC Management determines (in its sole discretion) that a participant has engaged in cheating or is otherwise in breach of these rules that participant will be disqualified from the GCC and the team will be penalised accordingly.
If GCC Management determines (in its sole discretion) that two or more members from the same team have engaged in cheating then each team member and the team will be disqualified from the GCC and formal notification sent to the employer company's CEO (or equivalent).
- Is personal data kept private?Personal data is only visible to individual participants. No other members of a participant s team are able to see this information. Organisation Managers and/or Area Managers have minimal access to participant data for monitoring purposes however they are only able to view step entries.
The only information other team members will be able to view is how many missed step entries a fellow team mate has. These missed step entries are visible via the Team Profile page on the website.
The GCC may use participant data for statistical purposes but it will remain anonymous.
- How does the GCC decide on a winning team? The first team (of seven people) to complete the course within the designated time period (Thursday May 24 2012 Wednesday September 12 2012) will be awarded the Most Active Team in the GCC 2012.
If more than one team finishes the course on the same event day the team with the highest number of total steps will be awarded the higher rank. The leader board will be updated after 24 hours to ensure that all time zones are considered before the winner/rank is decided.
In the event that no team completes the course during the GCC the team that has travelled the furthest distance by the final day of the GCC will be the Most Active Team.
In the event of a tie in the distance travelled during the GCC then the GCC title will be shared.
In all cases the decision of the GCC Management will be final.
The GCC is all about the journey not the destination; this means that while you may choose to run the event internally as a competition we do not treat it as such and so do not award prizes to winning teams. Thanks to our sponsors we give away random weekly prizes to reward participation and for keeping step entries up to date but the main rewards of the GCC are health and wellbeing (probably the most valuable prize of all).
